The Wineshow

Welcome to the Wine Show Jo'burg

Since its launch in 2006, The Wine Show Jo'burg has grown in size and popularity. Now in its 8th year, nothing has changed. The popular consumer wine exhibition finds a new home in the Sandton Convention Centre and promises to deliver a fun and informative experience for wine lovers of all persuasions.

This year, the Wine Extra/IWSC Gold Lounge where some of the world's top wines and spirits will be available for tasting with members of the Sommeliers Association of South Africa presenting workshops that will showcase these products to our visitors returns and is joined by the very exciting What Food, What Wine area where we will be launching this great competition to the South African market.. The hugely popular Wine Theatre will see a range of producers do tasting sessions at no extra charge.

The boules courts will be back with various other lifestyle areas, including virtual golf and a sushi area.

As a visitor, you can expect to see many new show exhibitors and should you happen to over indulge, there's always Goodfellas who will be on hand to drive you home in your own car at no extra charge (only during the last 3 hours of the show on a first come, first served basis).

The Wine Show Jo'burg – Pulling Out All The Stops

Wine producers who want their wines seen not only by the Jo'burg locals, but also on a more international platform would be simply insane to miss The Wine Show Jo'burg this year.

As editor at large of Meininger's Wine Business International, author of the Wine Travel Guide to the World and the forthcoming Wine Marketing Toolkit, and as one of the world's most widely traveled wine professionals, Robert Joseph is uniquely well placed to talk about current wine trends across the world.

While at The Wine Show, he'll describe some of the things he has seen happening recently in places as diverse as China, India, Australia and the USA. He'll talk about the way the French are - hard, though it might be to believe - turning to grapefruit-flavoured wine, while top Bordeaux chateau owners are experimenting with variations on the kinds of amphora the Romans and Greeks would have used.

Fans of South African wines will be fascinated to learn of the way Robert sees the best examples from the Cape fitting into this global context. He will be discussing a personal selection of his favourite wines as exhibited at the Show in two scheduled sessions in the Wine Extra Theatre (free to attend by all general entry ticket holders).

In addition to this, the spectacular television partnership with DStv, promoting all three of this year's events in Jo'burg, Durban and Port Elizabeth respectively, is sure to garner immense interest and increase the visitor numbers significantly.

However, you've got to be in it to win it. There are still a limited number of stands available for the Jo'burg leg of the Show, which takes place from 8-10 May at the Sandton Convention Centre. For more information or to book a stand, please call Vanessa on 021-888 8817 or email her at For additional Show information please visit

The Wine Extra/IWSC Gold Lounge

In May 2013, visitors to The Wine Show Jo'burg will have the opportunity to experience and compare wines and spirits awarded Gold Medal Status at the 2012 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC). The Wine Extra and IWSC Gold Lounge will showcase the very best of South African wines and spirits with tutored tasting sessions.

Since its inception in 2006, The Wine Show has gained a reputation as a notable platform for wine estates, boutique wineries and garagistes to engage with consumers on a large scale. Says John Woodward, director of The Wine Show, "The Show has consistently delivered the highest per head visitor spend of any consumer wine show in South Africa, making it a must on the calendar for any wine producer and wine enthusiast."

Entrance to the WineExtra and IWSC Gold Lounge is subject to an additional R40, which includes all tastings and theatre sessions. Once inside the lounge, visitors will be treated to a tasting session with the winemakers and members of the South African Sommeliers Association (SASA). If you're a more serious wine lover, you will not be disappointed.
